In Case You Hadn’t Heard, I’m Not Normal

My roommate has a nightly routine of stepping on the bottom bunk where I sleep to launch herself into the top. The other night as the bed squeaked and jostled with her settling-in ritual, the thought struck me: Most 32-year-old women don’t sleep in bunk beds. Then I smiled in the dark. And I’m ok with that.

Brave Love

I watched her walk away, the girl I’d met 20 minutes before, dragging her sorrow along with her behind a tiny suitcase. A burden weighed so heavily on her shoulders that it almost felt the clouds should have been out, the sky should have been depressed along with her. Instead, the sun blazed on our skin and we wondered, “Did we do enough?”
