Since being in Ukraine, my team and I have been involved with English camps here. It has been an incredible opportunity for us to connect with the youth! There was one week when we worked with a camp called, “Jammglish.” During that week I was on a team of ten teenagers, all ranging from the ages of 13 to 17.
On the first day I noticed that one of the younger girls was acting shy, not saying much at all. Her name was Olga.
The Lord gave me His heart for Olga and that made me want to pursue a friendship with her.
Seeing that I actually cared, Olga began to come out of her shell more and more. By the third day she was even getting out on stage, speaking in front of everyone!
We started talking more as the week went on, both during English class and outside of that time. I learned that her English was great! We would ask each other questions, trying to get to know one another. Topics we discussed included our hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes. Through it all, a friendship was built. As the camp was coming to a close, I began praying that the Lord would give me an opportunity to share the Gospel with her.
Then, on the last night, the Lord answered that prayer! We were talking and ended up on the subject of religion. I found out that she was an atheist and believed in reincarnation. As we continued talking, I was able to share my testimony with her and why I believe in Jesus. I asked her, “If God appeared to you right now, what question would you ask Him?” I saw the wheels turning in her head as she responded, “Wow…I have never really thought of that before.”
As our conversation came to an end, she thanked me for talking with her and told me that she was fascinated by what I had shared.
I know God is the one who opened the door for me to plant those seeds and He is the one who will continue to see them grow.
He answered my prayers that week and I know He is going to continue that good work He has started in Olga.
Maddy isn’t shy when it comes to showing others that they’re loved. She’s quick to speak truth about the Lord and people! There’s never a dull moment when Maddy is around.
