Our Winter DTS recently came back from outreach in East Asia with stories of God using them to reveal Himself and rescue the lost. Check out this story of how God used Jake, a student in the school, to share His love with a friend that he made.
We were in a small city in the mountains in Eastern Asia volunteering at a coffee shop, helping people practice their English. My team had the opportunity to present the gospel through a skit called Sam and the King. After the skit, I started talking to this guy named Josh. We made small talk for a while and then Josh was curious about the skit. He asked me why the king had died for Sam. I told him it was because the king loved Sam so much that he died in his place.
I asked him if he knew who Jesus was, and he said that he had heard of Jesus, but that he was Buddhist and didn’t believe in God. So I told him that just like in the skit, Jesus Christ died for us so that our sins could be forgiven and so that we could have a personal relationship with God. Then I shared a few stories about what God had done in my life.
God healed him! Just seeing the way way his eyes lit up was so cool.
Then I felt like God was saying that He wanted to show up in Josh’s life in a real way. So I asked him if he had any injuries. He said that he had bruised his wrist and it still hurt. I asked if I could ask God to heal his wrist and he said that is was fine. As I finished praying for him and looked up, I saw this amazed look on his face as he reached down and felt his wrist. He said that it felt completely better and that it was “magical.” God healed him! Just seeing the way way his eyes lit up was so cool.
At the end of our conversation he told me that he believed in God now. I told him that just like me, he could have a personal relationship with God. Right then we had to leave, but he said he was going to ask God to keep showing up in his life. I asked for his contact information so that the local missionaries there could follow up with him. It was incredible to see God heal him and show up in his life that night.
Coming from an Amish background, Jake came into DTS with a hunger and desire to know God in a deep way. God met him there, and Jake has seen transformation take place in his life. Now Jake wants to see other people discipled and come to know the incredible love of God. He spent 6 weeks in East Asia, sharing stories with people of God’s goodness to him. When he’s not sharing about how good God is, he loves to spend time with his family, go four-wheeling, and eat mangoes.
