From South Africa: Our Great God

A story from Marny, a student from our Discipleship Training School, who is on outreach in South Africa.

For our first week of outreach we worked in a township called Overcome and helped a ministry called Ark Chapel International Ministries start a preschool.

I prayed that he will walk and be a testimony to the community of how GREAT our God is.

One day when I was helping in the preschool, I overheard one of the teachers mention something about one of the children not being able to walk because of a medical condition. Immediately, passion rose up inside of me. At one point this little boy was upset and needed assistance so I jumped on the opportunity and began praying for him while he was in my arms. He had to be no more than 2 years old, but it was obvious that he understands words people speak to him. I told him that he is not worthless or useless, rather he is wonderfully made and worth a whole lot. I prayed for his healing. I prayed that he will walk and be a testimony to the community of how GREAT our God is.

He was sitting in my lap on the floor and at one point he began to stand up! As he stood up, I held his hands. He began taking steps. Several times he crossed his feet, so I reached down and set them back straight and he continued to walk. He got really close to a chair and let go of my hands to reach for the chair. Once he grabbed it and began taking steps around the chair.

He knew he was accomplishing something he was told he would never be able to do.

The joy on his face was incredible. He knew he was accomplishing something he was told he would never be able to do. I continued throughout the day praying for strength and that the Holy Spirit would continue to touch him. It’s perfectly normal for him not to be walking yet, he is still pretty young, but I have full confidence that he will be walking by the age of 4 just like all of the other kids by God’s grace and mercy.

Praise Jehovah Rapha, praise the Lord who heals!
