Ever wonder if God can use your love of sports to make an impact?
Pull together with like-minded athletes who love Jesus and want others to know his love. The Sports DTS incorporates all the elements of our classic Discipleship Training School: personal relationship with God, knowing his character, growing in humility and obedience, discovering who he’s made you to be, living that out in relationship with others, and so much more. It adds an emphasis on sports, building in regular opportunities to hone your skills, grow in teamwork and healthy competition, and learn to use your physical abilities to serve others.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Sport has the power to change the world.” It’s a universal language, a powerful force to bring people together. The Sports DTS equips you to use the passion and skill you already have to reach out to others who are desperate for an encounter with Jesus.
Can God use your love of sports to make an impact? We believe it’s why he gave it to you in the first place.
Real Life Change
The first twelve weeks of a YWAM DTS are saturated with life-changing teaching and discipleship. And that’s just the beginning! Learning extends beyond the classroom as you’re immersed in our missionary community.
- Kick off each day with personal time with Jesus.
- Use your passion for sports, and discover other giftings in action, as you minister with us in our city.
- Develop skill and teamwork as you work together with other athletes to honor God with both your ability and your attitude.
- Follow Jesus in a way that’s gritty and authentic as you live out the truth you’re learning alongside like-minded people.
- Forge lasting friendships through a community environment and small group accountability.
- Expand your concept of who God is as we pursue him together in worship and prayer.
You’ll take the next eight weeks to engage the nations with the Gospel. You and your team will use sports, practical service, and real relationship with those you meet to share Jesus in a strategic overseas location. Destinations vary, but recent YWAM DTS teams have ministered in India, South Africa, Ukraine, and a few restricted-access nations that it’s better not to mention here.

- September 17, 2017 – February 24, 2018

Sports DTS FAQ
How is the Sports DTS different from other DTS options?
All of our DTS students will come together for regular classtime, as well as worship, intercession, small group, and other elements of training. The Sports DTS offers additional content geared towards developing you as a godly athlete, as well as providing opportunities for sports ministry.
Is there a required skill level?
The Sports DTS staff are gifted athletes, but not one of them has gone pro. If you’re ready to learn and participate fully, you’ll fit in just fine. If sports aren’t your thing, you should consider either the Classic DTS or another special-focus DTS that might be a good fit for you.
Which sports will the Sports DTS include?
We’ll customize the Sports DTS based on the interests and skill levels of incoming students, but right now our YWAM community plays a lot of basketball, volleyball, and frisbee (and spikeball, if that counts!) Some of our staff are involved in local soccer and hockey teams and disc golf competitions. We’ve got several American football fans as well.
Do I need to bring any gear?
Obviously, anything that you regularly use to play (cleats, skateboard, hockey stick, etc) would be a good idea to bring along. Once we have a better idea of the interests of the Sports DTS team as a whole, we’ll let you know if there’s any additional equipment you should bring.
